Minister for Energy and Physical Infrastructure, Kulman Ghising, has underscored the crucial role of effective leadership and good governance in politics, advocating for a results-driven, people-centric approach to national development.
While announcing the establishment of Ujyaalo Nepal Party in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Ghising, a figure known for his successful tenure at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), made these remarks while outlining a vision for a prosperous Nepal free from corruption.
Key pillars of the vision
Highlighting several core principles essential for progress, Minister Ghising emphasized the need for placing the "right person in the right place at the "right time," specifically citing the importance of having the right secretary in the right ministry to ensure efficient service delivery.
He stressed the focus must be on "not speech but the result," arguing that genuine development is achieved through tangible outcomes rather than mere promises.
Meanwhile, Ghising linked the failure of leadership directly to the loss of public trust. He noted that his own "comeback" was a testament to winning the trust of the public, and that rebuilding this faith is vital to counter the prosperity of corruption.
Addressing corruption and the Gen Z uprising
The Minister directly addressed the country's prevailing challenges, including corruption and the recent youth movement.
Ghising stated that corruption has prospered due to a lack of effective delivery and good governance. He insisted that all work must be people-centric, taking the specific needs of the public into consideration.
Regarding the recent youth mobilization, he described the "Gen Z uprising" as the "outburst of the long-held frustration" stemming from corruption, procrastination, poverty and nepotism.
Ghising attributed the failure to implement the work plan to Nepal's overall underdevelopment. He also stressed the need to amend existing laws that pose obstacles, arguing that the changes are essential for the country's progress.
As many as 203 individuals formally joined the Ujyaalo Nepal Party during its establishment announcement held at Nepal Academy in Kamaladi.
