The death toll from a cylinder explosion at a nightclub in Goa, India late Saturday night has risen to 25, according to Indian media reports. Six others were injured in the incident.
Among the dead are four tourists and fourteen staff members, while the identities of the remaining seven victims are yet to be confirmed, Indian media outlets reported. Authorities have not publicly released the names of the deceased so far.
Police said the blast occurred around midnight on Saturday. The explosion was so powerful that the fire spread throughout the club within minutes. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after an extended effort.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and local legislator Michael Lobo visited the site following the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the nightclub had not adhered to fire safety regulations. Senior administrative officials are currently on site, and a forensic team (FSL) is examining the cause of the fire.
