Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, who suddenly collapsed while hiking on the Chandragiri Hill in Kathmandu, has undergone a successful heart surgery.
Ambassador Srivastava is currently receiving treatment at Grande International Hospital in Dhapasi, where he is being monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the hospital said.
According to hospital sources, Ambassador Srivastava suffered a 'heart attack' in the left coronary artery of his heart. A stent was placed to clear the blockage.
Ambassador airlifted to hospital
Sources from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu stated that the Ambassador suddenly fell unconscious and collapsed during the hike. Due to his critical condition, he was immediately rescued by a Nepali Army helicopter and airlifted to Grande International Hospital.
Upon receiving the news that the Ambassador had collapsed, a team of two dozen security personnel led by a Police Inspector from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kirtipur, was dispatched toward the Bhasmesur hill area.
"It was a difficult location with cliffs and dense forest. It took some time to reach the location," said a security personnel who was part of the team. "When we found him, he was unconscious."
Condition stable after surgery
The hospital confirmed that the Ambassador, who was brought in an unconscious state, had suffered a heart attack, and the operation to clear the blocked artery was successful. Following the surgery, his health condition is reported to be stable.
Two embassy officials were accompanying Ambassador Srivastava during the hiking trip.
