CPN (UML) Vice Chairman and former Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has been arrested.
Paudel was arrested from Suva Hotel in Surkhet on Monday afternoon. Paudel, a member of the UML's Election Review and Reorganization Task Force, had reached Surkhet to collect suggestions.
UML central committee committee member Rudra Shahi told Nepalkhabar that Paudel was taken out without informing the participants while the program was going on inside. "We did not know anything. He was taken out by a team of police while the program was going on. Later on, we received information that he was arrested," he said.
The District Police Office, Surkhet said that Paudel has been taken from Surkhet to Nepalgunj by road. The police are preparing to take him from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu.
Earlier, the task force had collected and gathered suggestions in Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. After that, he reached Surkhet with the task force team.
It is said that he was arrested for investigation into a money laundering case. Prior to arresting him, a team of the Money Laundering Investigation Department also raided his residence in Bhaisepati, Kathmandu, it is learnt.
