As many as 650 ballots have been cast in six hours in the voting underway to elect the leadership at the 11th General Convention of CPN (UML). Delegates are casting their votes through 80 voting machines.
Even though the delegates are participating in the voting with enthusiasm, the voting process is taking a long time. A total of 2,263 delegates are participating in the UML General Convention. Those who have cast ballots have said it took 30 minutes each in average to cast votes.
"The voting is taking place with enthusiasm. The delegates are casting their ballots from all 80 voting machines," Secretary of the Central Election Commission, Dr Kunsang Lama said. "The voting is likely to continue until 10 pm."
According to Lama, 650 votes were cast as of 3 pm. The voting had commended at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu at 9 am.
The voting to elect the new leadership is being held under two panels -- one led by party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and the other by senior Vice Chairperson Ishwar Pokharel.
