The voting held under the 11th General Convention to elect the new leadership of CPN (UML) has concluded.
The voting to elect the new leadership began on Wednesday morning and ended a while ago.
Out of a total of 2,263 voters, only 2,227 votes were cast. According to the Central Election Commission, 36 voters were unable to cast their votes due to various reasons.
Voting details
Start time: Wednesday, 9:20 am.
Duration: It took 21.5 hours to complete the process using 80 electronic voting machines.
Key Candidates: The current Chairman, KP Sharma Oli, and Senior Vice-Chairman, Ishwar Pokharel, are competing with their respective panels.
Independent Candidates: Some individuals who were not included in either panel have also filed candidacies independently.
Why did it take so long?
Voters reported that the process was time-consuming due to the lengthy list of candidates. On average, it took a single voter anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete their vote.
Who abstains from voting?
Some delegates did not cast their votes in the election. Those abstaining from the voting are Mukunda Neupane, Basanta Nembang, Bal Kumar Kauchha, Brijesh Gupta, Raj Kumar Gupta, Dan Bahadur BK, Hira Bahadur Rajbanshi, Posta Kumar Nepal, Saraswati Gautam, Sarbat Lal Rajbanshi, Pradeep Raj Pyakurel, Samir Nepal, Rachana Rajopadhyay, Ahok KC, Ghanshyam Koirala, Sirjana Nepali, Ashim Koirala, Dinesh Bastola, Baluka Belbase, Giriraj Belbase, Rajesh Aryal, Mina Pokharel, Tejkumar BK, Pallav Raj Bhatta, Tilak Rijal, Goma Nepali among others, according to the Central Election Commission .
What next?
The Election Commission has announced that the vote counting will begin shortly, and the results are expected to be out within approximately three hours.
