Gokarna and Yogesh from Pokharel panel likely to be elected among 19 UML office-bearers

The vote counting for the CPN (UML)’s 11th General Convention is underway at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu.

As the vote count continues, only two candidates from Ishwar Pokharel’s panel currently show a strong chance of securing office-bearer positions.

From the Pokharel camp, Gokarna Bista (for vice-chairman) and Yogesh Bhattarai (for deputy general secretary) have managed to stay within the winning range.

According to the amended UML statute, this election will select five vice-chairpersons and three deputy general secretaries. Aside from these two exceptions, candidates from the Oli panel are leading in all other office-bearer positions.

Of the total 2,263 delegates, 2,227 cast their votes in the elections held under the 11th General Convention of UML.  Of the votes cast, 1,139 votes have been counted as of 12:40 pm.
