Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has stressed that the election should be held on March 5.
During a meeting with local leaders on Friday in Sundarharaincha Municipality-4 under his constituency Morang-6, Koirala said that Nepali Congress is eager to go to the election as it is the foundation of democracy.
"Only elections can save the constitution and purge the country of corruption and restore the rule of law," said Koirala. "We have been waiting for the election date, but, given the government's preparations, there is suspicion whether the election will be held on the stipulated date."
Meanwhile, he accused the government of failing to create an environment conducive for the election.
"Some party leaders have been barred from leaving Kathmandu, looted weapons remain unrecovered, and escaped prisoners are strolling about in a broad daylight. What is the government thinking about this," asked Koirala.
He also directed the party ranks and file to get ready for the election.
