Nepali Congress (NC) has called on Prime Minister Sushila Karki to initiate immediate dialogues with top political leaders to guarantee that upcoming elections are held as scheduled.
During an all-party meeting convened by the Prime Minister at Singha Durbar on Monday, NC Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav emphasized that elections cannot be successfully conducted by harboring "animosity" toward political parties. He urged the government to prioritize creating a conducive environment through high-level political consultation rather than focusing on secondary issues.
“The government must not delay in consulting top leadership to build the necessary political and security atmosphere for the polls,” Yadav stated. He reminded the administration that the country’s democratic legitimacy would be at risk if the elections failed to meet their deadline.
Drawing on historical precedents, Yadav noted that past elections led Nepali Congress were widely regarded as impartial, even when their own Prime Minister lost. He cautioned the current administration against ignoring political parties, asserting that they remain the pillars of democracy.
While acknowledging the government's recent legislative efforts, Yadav remarked that the timing might not be ideal. "The law you are trying to bring may be good, but time is not on our side," he added, urging the Prime Minister to focus strictly on the electoral roadmap.
