Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has hinted that the date of the 15th General Convention might be rescheduled for a later date.
Delivering his views at a program titled life and characters of Kishunji, organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the date of the General Convention could be changed due to delay in the distribution of active memberships. "The General Convention can be delayed for some time, even though I am not in favor of it," he said. "I want it to be held on January 10-12."
The work of distribution and renewal of active memberships could not be completed within the set deadline. A meeting of the Active Membership Management Committee convened on Tuesday decided to extend the deadline till December 24 noon. Earlier, the December 15 had been set as the submission deadline for membership renewal.
Some forms dispatched from the Central Office of Nepali Congress had been without serial numbers. Disputes cropped up over this issue resulting in the delay in the distribution of active memberships.
In an ironic turn, Koirala said, "New active members joined Nepali Congress. I am, in fact, not responsible for the unnumbered forms. I only became aware of the situation once I was informed about it."
Nepali Congress General Convention follows a bottom-up process, starting at the ward level and advancing through municipal, district, and provincial stages.
