A meeting took place between the Minister for Energy, Physical Infrastructure, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, and the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen). The two held a "one-on-one" discussion on Thursday morning.
Both Balen and Kulman have been intensifying their respective negotiations ahead of the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. The meeting took place between the two in this context.
Key points of discussion
The talks held between Balen and Minister Kulman covered potential collaboration and "power-sharing" arrangements for the upcoming election.
Although discussions were held on a comprehensive package, sources indicate that no final conclusion has been reached yet.
A major point of contention is that Balen Shah is positioning himself as a candidate for Prime Minister. Similarly, Kulman Ghising is also projecting himself as a Prime Ministerial contender.
What next?
"Dialogues are ongoing. We are communicating with various stakeholders," a source close to Kulman told Nepalkhabar. "We are attempting to reach a package deal with Balen."
This meeting follows a previous meeting between the two on November 30. After the meeting with Kulman, Balen is also holding meetings with Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
