Former Lieutenant General of Nepali Army Balananda Sharma has taken the oath of office and secrecy as the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
President Ramchandra Paudel administered Sharma the oath of office and secrecy amidst a ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas a while ago.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sushila Karki appointed Sharma as the Foreign Minister on Friday morning.
With Sharma's appointment, the number of members in the cabinet led by Karki has reached 15.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has entrusted the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Sharma, who has played a significant role in establishing peace at both national and international levels.
He also holds experience serving as the Force Commander of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights. Sharma holds a Master’s degree in History from Tribhuvan University.
After joining the Nepali Army in 1969, his military career included roles ranging from Assistant Senior Military Officer for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to serving as a Defense Attaché in the Soviet Union.
