General Secretary of Nepali Congress (NC) Gagan Thapa has underlined the need to go for the Special General Convention of the party.

Receiving the demand letter from the delegates advocating for the Special General Convention on Friday, General Secretary Thapa said the Central Working Committee (CWC) now has to address the demand of the Special General Convention.

When the 15th General Convention which was scheduled for mid-December was postponed for January 10-12, now it's party's obligation to hold the Special General Convention.

"None of us is above the party statute, nor anyone has the right or privilege to disobey the party’s statute," Thapa said. "The party statute has made special arrangements. Article (2) of the statue has laid down a provision that the Special General Convention needs to be summoned if 40 percent of the delegates demand it for some special reason. This is mandatory, not optional."

The party should move ahead according to the demand of the Special General Convention when the regular General Convention could not be held as scheduled.

"It was an obligation for the party to hold the Special General Convention by mid-January. I don't need to say much about it. Your demand letter speaks volumes. What I say is it is party's CWC meeting's responsibility to hold the Special General Convention as per the party statute."

It is party's responsibility to go for the Special General Convention if the regular General Convention were not held by mid-January.
