Nepali Congress (NC) has finalized its list of 110 candidates for the Proportional Representation (PR) seats ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the party’s Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC) held today. Speaking to the press after the meeting, party spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat confirmed that the committee has unanimously approved the names.

Focus on fresh representation
In a significant shift in strategy, the party has decided to exclude anyone who has previously served as a PR member since the first Constituent Assembly elections in 2008.

"We have decided not to include those who have already enjoyed the opportunity of being elected through the PR system in the past," Dr. Mahat stated. "The list features a blend of youth and veteran leaders who have contributed significantly to the party but have not yet been given a formal opportunity in Parliament."

Key highlights of the list
The list aims to represent all districts and includes figures from social and intellectual sectors. While the full list remains confidential until released by the Election Commission, Dr Mahat confirmed that Assistant General Secretary Bhishma Angdembe and several central committee members are included in it. The primary selection criteria focused on ensuring that those who were previously elected to the Constituent Assembly or subsequent parliaments via the PR route were replaced by fresh candidates.

Confidentiality until formal filing
While the party has finalized the names, the specific identities of all 110 candidates have not been made public. Dr Mahat explained that since this is a "closed list" to be submitted to the Election Commission, the names will be officially revealed only through the Commission's formal process.
