Two students killed, nine injured in Rolpa ieep accident

Two people were killed and nine others sustained injuries in a vehicle accident that occurred in Rolpa district on Saturday night.

The accident occurred at 10:00 pm when a Bolero jeep, Ga 1 Ja 666, veered off the road while it was transporting students from Nepal Rastriya Secondary School back to Sunchahari-4, Syuri, after participating in the President Running Shield sports competition.

According to Inspector Sunil Thapa Nepali of the District Police Office, Rolpa, the jeep was traveling from Seram in Sunchahari Rural Municipality-1 toward Syuri when the mishap took place.

The deceased have been identified as Deepa Pun, 12, of Sunchahari-4, Syuri and Sunil BK, 12, of Sunchahari-4, Syuri.

"The victims were rescued from the site and rushed to the Sulichaur Primary Health Center, where doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival," Inspector Nepali told local media.

The nine injured students received preliminary treatment before being referred to Butwal City Hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, police have taken the jeep driver into custody. He has been identified as Mansur Gharti, 25, a resident of Lungri Rural Municipality-7, Rolpa.

Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident that occurred last night.
