Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has officially moved forward with its unification plans by forming a Unity Integration Subcommittee. This committee is tasked with finalizing the merger process with Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen)’s group and the Ujyaalo Nepal Party.
The subcommittee was established on Saturday under the leadership of RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti. According to party sources, the seven-member committee will follow a balanced representation model to ensure a smooth transition for all parties involved. The committee is comprised of two members each from RSP, Balen group and Ujyaalo Nepal Party led by Kabindra Burlakoti.
Background of the unification
This formal step follows high-profile preliminary agreements made late last month. On December 28, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane and Mayor Balen Shah signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to unite their political forces. Just a day later, a similar agreement was reached between RSP and Ujyaalo Nepal Party.
While the fundamental agreements are already in place, the newly formed subcommittee will address the technicalities of "adjustment"—including organizational structure, rank integration, and ideological alignment.
What next?
The RSP Central Committee is scheduled to meet today to formally endorse the formation of the Unity Integration Committee. Once approved, the Burlakoti-led team will begin the final phase of integrating the three groups into a single political entity.
