Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has proposed that the party’s Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC) should call for a Special General Convention through mutual consensus.
During a discussion with over 30 central working committee (CWC) members at his private secretariat on Tuesday, Dr. Koirala suggested scheduling the convention after January 20. He noted that the party is currently busy with finalizing proportional representation (PR) candidates for the National Assembly and House of Representatives.
"If we call the convention after the conclusion of the nomination process will send a message of unity within the party," Koirala stated, seeking a middle ground amid rising internal demands for a special session.

Stand against electoral alliances
Dr Koirala also reaffirmed his stance that Nepali Congress should contest the upcoming House of Representatives elections without an electoral alliance.
He argued that while alliances might secure a few more direct seats, they significantly reduce the party's proportional representation (PR) votes. Alliances cause long-term harm to the party. "I am clear that the party should contest the upcoming elections without forming any electoral alliances," he emphasized.
Central member Pushpa Bhusal, speaking on behalf of the attendees, supported Koirala’s coordinative approach. Many participating members, including Chinkaji Shrestha, Dila Sangraula, Ram Janam Chaudhary, Udaya Shamsher Rana, and Arjun Joshi, suggested rebranding the Special Convention as an "Election Declaration Assembly" to build momentum for the polls.
