The Kathmandu Valley recorded a significant drop in temperature on Friday morning, with initial readings hitting 3 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
Meteorologists suggest that the mercury could drop even further when the official minimum temperature is recorded later today.
The MFD monitors temperatures twice daily. The minimum temperature is recorded at 8:45 am and the maximum temperature at 5:45 pm.
Recent data shows a consistent cold spell gripping the valley.
The minimum temperature remained steady at 3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Thursday.
On Thursday Morning, initial readings were 3.3 degrees, which later fell to an official 3 degrees by 8:45 am.
Since today's early reading is already at 3 degrees, experts predict the official record may plunge below the 3 degrees for the first time this week.
While Kathmandu faces a shivering chill, other parts of the country are experiencing even more extreme conditions. On Thursday, Jumla recorded the lowest temperature in the country at minus 8.1 degrees Celsius.
