Preparations for the Special General Convention of Nepali Congress, spearheaded by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, have been finalized. The organizing committee confirmed today that all logistical arrangements are in place for the event, which is scheduled to commence on Sunday.

Venue and logistics
The inauguration ceremony will be held at the open grounds of Bhrikuti Mandap. According to Govinda Pudasaini, Coordinator of the Stage Management Committee, the main stage has been decorated to accommodate 50 guests.

"We have arranged over 6,000 seats in the open field for attendees," Pudasaini stated. The venue has been adorned with party flags, banners, and promotional materials to mark the occasion.

The event is set to begin with various rallies arriving from different parts of the Kathmandu Valley starting at 11:00 am. The formal inauguration of the Special General Convention is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday.

Organizers have extended invitations to top party leaders, including President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Vice President Dhanraj Gurung and Senior Leader Shekhar Koirala

However, sources suggest it is currently unlikely that these top-notch leaders will attend. Despite this, the organizers claim that most convention delegates have already arrived in the capital.

Background and delegate turnout
The organizing committee claims that 60% of the party’s General Convention delegates will participate in the event. This follows an earlier move on October 15, where signatures from 54% of delegates were registered at the party’s central office in Sanepa demanding a special session.

The push for this special convention faced delays after the party initially released a schedule for a regular General Convention. However, after the regular convention was postponed from its December date to May 11–14, General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma decided to move forward with the Special General Convention on January 11 and 12.
