The closed session of the Special General Convention underway at Bhrikuti Mandap has formed a five-member election committee led by senior advocate Sitaram KC to take forward to elect the leadership.
The five-member election commission includes Ashok Pokharel, Gokarna Banjade, RC Bimal Paudel and Ramchandra Gautam.
Meanwhile, the negotiation is underway between the establishment side and those in favor of the Special General Convention.
The talks team includes Ramesh Lekhak and Balkrishna Khand on behalf of President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Joint General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar and leader Minendra Rijal from Shekhar Koirala faction and Pradip Paudel, Madhu Acharya, Gururaj Ghimire and Devraj Chalise representing the special convention side.
Even though the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting decided to hold the 15th General Convention in May, the Special General Convention is underway at Bhrikuti Mandap since January 11.
The closed session that kicked off on Monday has already endorsed the work procedure to elect a new president by removing Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Originally scheduled for January 11 and 12, the special convention has extended till today due to ongoing deliberations on various reports.
According to Special General Convention Management Secretariat Coordinator Manoj Mani Acharya, the deliberations are underway on the reports presented by General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma and following the policy-wise decisions, electoral process for the new leadership will move forward.
Sixty-three percent of the general convention delegates registered their names until Monday and this process is still ongoing, said Acharya.
