Claiming to be official Nepali Congress as proponents of a Special General Convention, Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have submitted a letter to the Office of the Election Commission, Nepal.
Thapa and Sharma filed the letter claiming that the majority of General Convention representatives are present at Bhrikuti Mandap. They asserted that the leadership elected through this Special General Convention will be the official one, further claiming that the previous Central Working Committee has already been dissolved.
Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Election Commission, confirmed that letters from both factions have been received. "We have received letters from both sides. They are currently with the Political Department and are under review," Bhattarai told Nepalkhabar.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Central Working Committee held at Sanepa, led by Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, has already expelled the two General Secretaries. Following their expulsion, President Deuba sent a formal notice to the Election Commission.
On the other hand, at the Special General Convention currently underway at Bhrikutimandap, the process of electing a new committee under the leadership of Gagan Thapa has moved forward.
