In a significant shift in party leadership dynamics, the newly elected Central Working Committee (CWC) of Nepali Congress, led by Gagan Thapa, has decided to revise the closed list of candidates for the Proportional Representation (PR) category for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
The decision was reached during the first meeting of the CWC held in Kupondole, Lalitpur on Thursday. This move marks a transition from the previous administration, as the party moves to update its official records and electoral filings.
Key decisions of the meeting
The party will amend and update the closed list of PR candidates previously submitted to the Election Commission, Nepal.
While the previous list bore the signature of President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the committee has officially decided that Gagan Thapa will now be the authorized signatory for candidate nominations and list amendments.
Following the party's second Special General Convention, the meeting decided to replace old organizational records with updated information regarding the newly elected CWC.
"The meeting has decided to amend and update the proportional representation list and the authorized signatures for candidate registration purposes," spokesperson Devraj Chalise told reporters following the meeting.
This administrative overhaul follows a period of internal restructuring within the Nepal's oldest party. By authorizing Thapa to sign off on electoral documents, the CWC is signaling a formal handover of executive functions regarding the upcoming polls.
The decision to "replace and update" records ensures that the results of the recent Special General Convention are formally recognized in all future dealings with the EC.
