With the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, top political leaders across Nepal have started heading to their respective constituencies to officially file their candidacies.
The election atmosphere heats up as party expedites the nomination process with the top leaders fanning out to the respective constituencies. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli arrived in his hometown in Jhapa on Monday. He is set to contest from Jhapa-5.
Similarly, Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' flew to West Rukum on Monday. He is scheduled to move to Rukum East, where he will be filing his candidacy this time.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane is leaving for Chitwan-2 to file his nominations after addressing a mass meeting in Janakpur.
In a significant move, RSP senior leader Balendra Shah (Balen) is also contesting from Jhapa-5, the constituency of KP Oli. He received his election ticket from Lamichhane in Janakpur and is expected to reach Damak by Monday evening.
Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa is preparing to file his nomination in person. While his previous constituency was Kathmandu-4, it remains to be seen if he will stick to the same seat or switch.
RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden is heading to Jhapa-3, while JSP Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav will be filing his candidacy from Saptari.
While most top leaders prefer to be physically present for the nomination to boost local morale, some candidates are reportedly planning to file their nominations through authorized representatives.
