A plane of Turkish Airlines bound for Istanbul from Kathmandu has been diverted to Kolkata, India, the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has said.
Turkish Airlines plane, with the flight number TK-727/A333, which took off at 13:29 pm from Kathmandu, was diverted to Kolkata after it reportedly caught a fire in its right engine, the TIA office said.
The plane was diverted to Kolkata after the fire issue was reported to the Kathmandu Approach Control, the Search and Rescue Coordination Center at TIA said.
The plane was held for a while in the sky before it was diverted to Kolkata where it made a safe landing at 3:03 pm.
A total of 236 people including 11 crew members were on board the plane.
