Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal spent the second day of his official visit to China holding meetings focused on political engagement, scientific cooperation, and climate-related collaboration.

One of the day's key engagements was a meeting with Liu Haixing, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Discussions centered on Nepal-China relations as well as cooperation between the CPC and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

According to information released by the Chinese side, Liu expressed China's willingness to strengthen exchanges and communication with the RSP, deepen cooperation through party-to-party channels, and expand cooperation in various sectors. The two sides also discussed governance experience and broader bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Khanal reiterated Nepal's commitment to the One China policy and stated that Nepal would not allow its territory to be used for activities directed against China. He also highlighted Nepal's interest in expanding cooperation with China in areas including science and technology, hydropower, agriculture, culture, tourism, and connectivity.

The Chinese side stated that the CPC is interested in further developing relations with RSP and strengthening exchanges at multiple levels.

Khanal also visited the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where discussions focused on scientific cooperation, climate change, Himalayan conservation, and disaster risk reduction.

Addressing researchers and officials, Khanal emphasized the need to deepen Nepal-China collaboration on issues affecting the Himalayan region. He noted that challenges such as glacier retreat, extreme weather events, and natural disasters require greater regional cooperation and scientific research.

The foreign minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening early warning systems, improving scientific data sharing, and enhancing cooperation in environmental monitoring and climate studies.

Chinese officials briefed the Nepali delegation on ongoing research partnerships and academic exchanges between the two countries. Discussions also covered future cooperation in science, technology, education, and research.

Khanal's visit to Beijing began on Sunday and is expected to include further meetings with Chinese officials and institutions as Nepal and China seek to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
