Eight killed, 45 injured in Baitadi bus accident

Eight people died on the spot when a bus carrying a wedding procession met with an accident in Baitadi on Thursday evening.

The deceased were identified as Keshav Raj Joshi, 40; Ashok Raj Joshi, 13; Basanta Joshi, 35; Bisan Dutta Joshi, 41; from Bitthadchir Rural Municipality-7 of Bajhang; Mohan Dev Bhatta, 60, of Kedarsyu Rural Municipality of Bajhang; Basanta Raj Ratala, 40, from Jayprithvi Municipality of Bajhang, and Pushpa Awasthi from Purchaudi-7 of Baitadi district, said Spokesperson of Baitadi Police, Police Inspector Baldev Badu.

The accident took place at Purchaudi-7 at 8:00 pm Thursday when the bus (Su Pa Province 02 001 Kha 1119) heading toward Sunkuda of Bajhang from Purchaudi Municipality-7 of Baitadi fell some 150 meters off the road. The bus was carrying a bride along with wedding procession after the ceremony.

Similarly, 45 others who were injured in the incident have been sent to a local health post. Of them, 27 are men and 18 are women.
