Pradeep Adhikari, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, who was arrested on charges of corruption in the construction of the Nalinchowk heliport, will have to remain in detention.
On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld the order of the Special Court to keep him in detention for trial. A joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Shanti Singh Thapa upheld the order of the subordinate court.
Earlier, on December 7, a joint bench of Special Court Justices Hemanta Rawal, Dilli Ratna Shrestha and Bidur Koirala had ordered the detention of Adhikari. He had on January 5 moved the Supreme Court against the decision of the Special Court.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed a case alleging embezzlement of Rs 135.746 million 213.77 paisa in the construction of the Nalinchowk heliport.
The Authority had made seven individuals, including Adhikari and Bhandari, defendants.
These include the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Adhikari, Murari Bhandari, then Director, Bikram Thapa, then Deputy Manager and incumbent Manager, Sambriddhi Shrestha, then Senior Officer and incumbent Deputy Manager, Guru Datta Adhikari, consultant, Abhiyantra Consulting Pvt. Ltd., and Bijay Thapa, then Director of the company.
