Police have arrested five individuals on the charge of defrauding Nepali youths of over 4 million rupees with the false promises of jobs in foreign countries.
The arrested are 43-year-old Bina Maharjan, and Binda Maharjan, 45 of Kirtipur Municipality-2, Kopila Sharma, 43, of Kathekhola Rural Municipality, 2, Baglung, currently staying at Chandragiri Municipality-14, Santosh Rai, 31, of Dhankuta Municipality-2, currently staying at Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26 and Kumari Tamang, 48, of Chaurideurali Municipality-9, Kavre, currently staying at Budhanilkantha Municipality-11, Kathmandu.
While Bina and Binda took Rs 1 million from an individual by promising him an American visa, Kopila took Rs 1.3 million from an American job aspirant. Similarly, Santosh took Rs 370,000 from a person by promising him a Cambodia's visa. Kumari allegedly swindled Rs 1.36 million from an individual with the lure of Portugal's visa.
They had gone out of contact after taking the amount from the victims. Acting on the complaint lodged by the victims, a team deployed from the Valley Crime Investigation Office, apprehended Bina and Binda from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-11 and Kumari from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4.
Similarly, Kopila was arrested from Chandragiri Municipality-14 while Santosh landed into the police net from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, according to the police.
The arrested have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal for further investigation, said the police.
