Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has expressed commitment to establish a citizen-friendly government if he becomes the Prime Minister of Nepal.
Following the party's announcement of Thapa as a potential prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming House of Representatives elections on March 5, he released a video message on Wednesday morning. In the message, he outlined his vision for a government where citizens receive immediate and efficient services.
"Citizens should not have to visit government offices just to receive basic services. If they must visit, it shouldn't be more than once. And when they leave, they should do so saying 'Thank you, government' rather than cursing it," said Thapa, "We have worked out the details on exactly what laws need to be drafted or amended, which existing institutions should be removed, added, or merged, and how to coordinate between different levels of government. We have a clear plan for the first and second steps of this process," said Thapa, who is contesting the election from Sarlahi-4.
He further said, "We can achieve this. Our core belief is that streamlining public service delivery is not just a convenience—it is a fundamental duty. Receiving service shouldn't be a source of constant hassle for the public; it is the government's obligation to ensure they receive it efficiently. This is our vision for a citizen-friendly government."
