The Nepal Swiss Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NSCCI) celebrated its 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Life Members Certificate Distribution Ceremony at Hotel Himalaya on Saturday. The milestone event comes as Nepal and Switzerland prepare to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.
A vision for economic growth
The AGM, attended by board members and key stakeholders, served as both a reflection on a decade of collaboration and a roadmap for future trade. President Khem R. Lakai presented the Annual Report, emphasizing the chamber’s role in deepening investment and institutional links.
A major highlight for the upcoming year includes a 2026 Nepali Business Delegation to Switzerland, specifically targeting the hospitality and tourism sectors. Vice President and Spokesperson Sushil Thapa noted that the mission aims to foster direct B2B partnerships and move beyond traditional developmental aid.
From trail bridges to trade routes
The event featured HE Dr Danielle Meuwly, Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, as the Chief Guest. The proceedings highlighted Switzerland's transformative 70-year legacy in Nepal, including the recent completion of the 10,000th trail bridge, a program that now benefits 19 million Nepalis, continued support for Nepal’s federal transition and disaster resilience and joint initiatives in climate resilience, SME growth, and clean air projects.
Ambassador Meuwly commended the NSCCI’s efforts, urging the private sector to prioritize innovation, education, and sustainable business practices as the bilateral relationship evolves from "aid to trade."
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of Life Member certificates. Members, including Surya Karki and Sapana Danai, highlighted the chamber’s networking power and new academic ties under the NSCCI-World Trade Institute (WTI) MoU.
As 2026 approaches, the NSCCI remains the primary bridge between the Nepali and Swiss private sectors, inviting businesses to capitalize on emerging opportunities in investment and innovation.
