Minister for Foreign Affairs, Balananda Sharma, is leaving for Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, to participate in the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected government.
Sharma is leaving for Bangladesh to congratulate the newly elected government and bolster the bilateral relations and deepen the bonds of cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh.
This visit is considered crucial at a time when the 40-megawatt power trade deal between Nepal and has reached an implementation stage.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by Tariq Rahaman has made a landslide victory in the Bangladeshi elections held recently. BNP made a historic win with over two thirds majority of seats. Rahaman is becoming the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
During the visit, Minister Sharma is scheduled to pay courtesy call on newly elected Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and request the government to invest in dedicated transmission lines and hydro-electricity.
Senior officials who assigned to supervise the South Asia Division will participate in the visiting team, according to the press note issued by the Foreign Ministry. Sharma will return home on February 19.
Nepal and Bangladesh have been mutual collaborating in regional forums including BIMSTEC and SAARC. Issues are being raised to establish Kathmandu and Dhaka.
Similarly, discussions are underway regarding the establishment of direct flights between Kathmandu and Dhaka, alongside the potential use of the Chittagong and Mongla ports.
