The Department of Passport has stopped passport distribution from Tuesday citing problem in its online system.

The Department has been facing severe criticism after stopping the passport distribution at a time when service seekers have been facing problem. The government has expressed its concern after the Department stopped the passport distribution until further notice.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) on Wednesday inspected the technical section of the Department at Tripureshwor.

The team held discussion with Director General of the Department, Administration and software support technical team about the problems, said Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator Surya Kiran Sharma.

The team from the OPMCM directed the bodies concerned to resolve the problem immediately, drawing a conclusion that the company did not resolve the problem as per the agreement and people had to face problem due to the company, added Sharma.

The OPMCM also asked the Department to make an action plan immediately for required infrastructural and policy-level reform and revise for the arrangement to get the passport without staying on a long queue.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Tuesday directed the secretaries of the ministries to make the arrangement for smooth service at the offices where there is high flow of service seekers within a month.
