Dr Tara Prasad Joshi of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has won the elections with a 7,100-vote margin in Dadeldhura, defeating Nain Singh Mahar of Nepali Congress.
According to the Office of the Returning Officer, RSP's Joshi received 19,131 votes, while Mahar of Nepali Congress received only 12,121 votes.
Similarly, Mansingh Mal of Nepali Communist Party received 6,834 votes and Chakra Prasad Snehi of CPN-UML received 2,926 votes.
With this, RSP has broken the dominance of former Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Dadeldhura for 34 years.
Deuba, who has been winning elections since 2048, did not become a candidate in Dadeldhura this time after being displaced from the position of Congress President. Nepali Congress fielded young leader Mahar in his place.
With Joshi's victory, RSP has succeeded in destroying the legacy of Congress built by Deuba in his home district of Dadeldhura.
