A Nepali Army sergeant died and a fellow soldier sustained injuries when a grenade exploded during a practice firing.
According to Nepali Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet, the incident took place during a practice in the forest of Mohanyal Rural Municipality-7 in Kailali. Basnet informed that corporal Himal Bikram Bista died.
He had shrapnel wounds on his right hand and body. He was immediately taken to Lal Ratna Hospital in Lamki with serious injuries. The army has stated that he died in the course of treatment.
The incident took place while a team deployed from the Far Western Division Training School Garange Barracks for a firing practice was practicing. Fellow soldier Himraj Joshi was also injured in the incident. He was near the explosion site.
According to spokesperson Basnet, he was taken to the Nepali Army Hospital in Nepalgunj after he could not be treated at Lamki Hospital.
