The number of seats for political parties has been finalized with the completion of the proportional representation vote count for the House of Representatives (HoR) election.
The size of the parties representing the HoR has been finalized with the Election Commission distributing PR seats on Thursday.
Accordingly, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has emerged as the largest party with 182 seats, including 125 first-past-the-post system (FPTP) and 57 PR. Due to the shortage of two seats, RSP failed to achieve a two-thirds majority. A total of 184 seats are required for two-thirds in the 275-member House of Representatives.
Similarly, Nepali Congress, which is in second place, has won 38 seats, including 18 FPTP and 20 PR, while CPN-UML has won 25 seats, including 9 FPTP and 16 PR.
Similarly, Nepali Communist Party has won 17 seats, including 8 FPTP and 9 PR, Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) has won 7 seats, including 3 FPTP and 4 PR, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has won 5 seats, including 1 FPTP and 4 PR.
Similarly, Mahabir Pun, who contested and won the election from Myagdi as an independent candidate, will also be representing the House of Representatives.
The Election Commission has already sent a letter to the parties on Thursday to select and submit names for PR MPs within three days based on the specified number of seats.
