The Deputy Commanding General for US Army Pacific, Joel Vowell, leading a team, has arrived on a three-day visit to Nepal.
The team, which arrived in Nepal on Sunday, is scheduled to stay in Nepal until Tuesday, said Nepali Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet. He is the senior most US army general to visit Nepal after the March 5 election.
During the Nepal visit, General Vowell will visit the Birendra Peace Operations Training Center in Panchkhal and observe the various activities carried out by the Nepali Army.
Prior to arriving in Nepal, on March 12, Vowell held a meeting with Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. The meeting was focused on strengthening the India-US defense partnership, according to the Indian Army statement.
Earlier, another US Army General Admiral Samuel J Paparo, commander of US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), had visited Kathmandu on February 13-14.
The Nepali Army believes that such a visit will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries and contribute to areas such as humanitarian assistance, disaster management and international peacekeeping operations.
