Two killed, five critically injured after being hit by fallen tree in Udayapur

Two people died and another sustained injuries after being hit by a tree felled by a windstorm in Udayapur district.

According to DSP Niranjan Thapa of the District Police Office, Udayapur, two people died in Katari due to the windstorm that battered the district on Monday evening.

"The deceased have been identified as Minamaya Tamang, 49, of Thaliyatar, Katari Municipality-8, and Birendra Chaudhary, 64, of Katari Municipality-5," Thapa said. "Five others were injured in the incident."

On Monday evening, around 7:30 pm, a dry sal tree (oak) fell on the zinc-roofed house of Birendra Chaudhary near Tinkunechowk, Katari Municipality-5. The house owner, Chaudhary, died after being hit by the fallen tree. Five people were injured in the incident, DSP Thapa said.

Chaudhary, who was seriously injured in the incident, was pronounced dead by doctors when he was taken to the Provincial Hospital, Katari for treatment.

The deceased Chaudhary's granddaughter, Binisha,5, Leela Bahadur Danuwar, 46, of Katari-5 Balaha, Yubaraj Karki, 27, of Katari-3 Ahaledanda, Prem Chandra Danuwar, 46, of the same place, and Asmita Pariyar, 16, daughter of Dor Bahadur Pariyar, 12, Baseri, Katari-12, were injured in the incident.

They are undergoing treatment at the Provincial Hospital Katari.

Chaudhary also runs a grocery shop at home. The four injured are customers who came to the shop.

Similarly, a woman from Thaliyatar, Katari Municipality-8, also died on Monday evening after being hit by a tree branch broken by the wind.

The deceased is Minamaya Tamang, 49, wife of local Madan Bahadur Tamang. She died when she was hit by a branch of a tree broken by the wind during the rain.

The seriously injured Minamaya, who was rushed to the Katari Provincial Hospital for treatment, was declared dead by doctors.

DSP Thapa said that further investigation into the incidents is underway.
