Nepali Congress Central Working Committee (CWC) has stood firmly against President Gagan Thapa’s proposal to resign. During a meeting at the central party office in Sanepa, Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma formally floated a proposal to reject the resignation, arguing that expecting transformative results just 50 days after a new leadership took charge through a Special General Convention is unreasonable.

Vice President Sharma emphasized that it would be an injustice to the organization for the President to abandon his post while the party navigates such turbulent times. While the committee acknowledged Thapa's sense of moral responsibility, the proposal maintained that his primary duty is to stabilize and rebuild the party—a sentiment Central Member Madhu Acharya noted was welcomed with unanimous applause.

Since the current leadership is largely composed of Thapa’s own allies from the recent special convention, he faced no internal opposition. Office-bearers, including Assistant General Secretary Farmullah Mansur and two dozen other committee members, have already voiced their strong support for him to remain in office. Senior leader Arjun Narasingh KC remarked that a "captain" who entered the arena promising to transform both the party and the nation cannot simply abandon his post mid-way because of election results.

KC urged party workers not to be disheartened by recent electoral outcomes, encouraging them to focus on stability and prosperity instead. Party spokesperson Devraj Chalise confirmed that while Thapa raised the issue of accountability, the prevailing consensus is that he must stay to lead the party’s reconstruction. Although a final decision was deferred on Friday, Vice President Sharma announced that the proposal would be formally resolved during Sunday’s session.
