The local administration has continued the prohibitory order issued in the Maharajgunj area of Kapilvastu since Saturday to curb the tension arising from the dispute between the two communities.

The prohibitory order area was extended after a fire was lit in front of the District Administration Office.

The District Administration Office, Kapilvastu had imposed the prohibitory order on Saturday, keeping in mind the security sensitivity after the clash that took place at Bargada in Maharajgunj Municipality-2 on Saturday. Any kind of gathering, meeting, procession and demonstration has been banned within the Bargada Bridge in the east of Maharajgunj, Bahadurganj Chowk in the west, Maharajganj Bazaar in the north and Hardauna areas in the south.

"The prohibitory order clamped since Saturday is in effect. It has been extended in some areas today," Kapilvastu Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam told Nepalkhabar. "An all-party meeting was also held on Sunday. The prohibitory order will remain in force until further orders."

The clash occurred when the dispute that arose in the border area of Wards 2 and 3 of the municipality escalated during the celebration of Eid and Nawaratri. Police fired seven rounds of tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. "Some unruly elements have tried to disrupt harmony in a society where all religions and cultures coexist. The situation is now under control," said Chief District Officer Gautam.

About 20 people, including security personnel and protesters, were injured in the clash. The DAO has appealed to political parties, public representatives, and civil society to play a responsible role in maintaining social harmony.
