Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been arrested.
A team of the Valley Crime Investigation Office with the help of the Armed Police Force arrested Lekhak from his home in Katunje, Bhaktapur at 5:40 am on Saturday.
He was arrested after being issued with an arrest warrant.
Lekhak was the Home Minister during the Gen Z movement that took place on September 8. On that day, 19 youths were killed in police firing in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu.
The Inquiry Commission formed under the leadership of former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate the incidents that took place on September 8 and 9 during the Gen Z movement had recommended that criminal cases be investigated against the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Lekhak, and officials of the Central Security Committee.
Following a decision taken by Council of Ministers led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday to implement the recommendations, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung met with IGP Dan Bahadur Karki and APF Inspector General Raju Aryal to discuss the arrests.
