The Supreme Court has barred private schools from taking new admissions before the commencement of the new academic session.
The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to stop the practice of conducting entrance exams before the commencement of the academic session, stating that it does not only violate the existing rules but also unnecessarily make a hole in the parents' pockets.
Hearing a writ petition filed by Ayush Badal and Akash Dhakal, students of Kathmandu University, School of Law, a single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal ordered not to start the admission process before the annual examination concludes.
The court has also issued a directive in the name of the government to ensure compliance with the Education Regulations and local level education acts.
According to the petition, the Education Regulations (Tenth Amendment), 2077, and local education management regulations clearly state that new admissions should only begin after the publication of annual examination results.
However, several prominent schools in the Kathmandu Valley including Galaxy Public School in Gyaneshwar, Little Angels School in Lalitpur, Rosebud School in Buddhanagar, to mention but a few, are currently conducting entrance exams, distributing forms, and enrolling students within the Nepali month of Chaitra.
