Renowned singer Asha Bhosle has passed away. She was 92.

The legendry singer who had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital after complaint of chest pain on Saturday night, passed away in the course of treatment on Sunday, the Times of India reported.

According to the doctors who were involved in her medical examination, the Padma Vibhushan awardee died of cardiac arrest.

Her last rites will be performed with full state honors on Monday, according to her family members.

Bhosle's early life and musical career
Born in 1933 into the prestigious Mangeshkar musical family, Asha’s journey began early. Following her father's passing, she started performing professionally at the age of nine to support her family. Though she recorded her debut film song in 1943, it was during the 1950s that she truly cemented her place in the industry. Over the next three decades, her versatility made her the premier choice for India’s top composers.

At age 16, she eloped with Ganpatrao Bhosle, her 31-year-old personal secretary, against her family’s wishes. The marriage was reportedly strained by harassment from her in-laws, leading to their eventual separation. After having three children together, Asha and Ganpatrao divorced in 1960.

Despite these early domestic struggles, Asha Bhosle’s resilience allowed her to reclaim her narrative, eventually becoming a global icon with a career spanning over eight decades.

The most recorded artist in music history
Throughout her extraordinary career, Asha Bhosle recorded over 12,000 songs. In 2011, she was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in music history.

Dum Maro Dum, Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, In Aankhon Ki Masti, Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar, Rangeela Re are some of her popular hits to her credit.
