US Assistant Secretary of State, Samir Paul Kapur, began his official visit to Nepal on Monday with a high-level meeting with Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane.
Arriving in Kathmandu earlier this morning, Kapur headed straight into political and diplomatic discussions following a brief orientation by the US Charge d'Affaires Scott Urbom.
Following the meeting, US Assistant Secretary Kapur expressed his satisfaction, stating that the dialogue focused on the RSP’s priorities within the new government and identifying fresh avenues for Nepal-US cooperation. "I was happy to meet RSP President Rabi Lamichhane in Kathmandu to discuss the party's priorities within the new government and explore further avenues for Nepal-US cooperation," he stated.

Transitioning from politics to innovation, Kapur also engaged with local technology entrepreneurs. These discussions centered on expanding US business opportunities, strengthening digital infrastructure, and promoting the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"The discussions ranged from strengthening digital infrastructure to increasing the ethical use of AI, and enhancing cybersecurity to sharing American technological expertise," he said. Both sides explored ways to enhance cybersecurity and exchange expertise in American technological advancements.
This visit marks the highest-level US diplomatic mission to Nepal since the formation of the Balen-led government. During his stay, Kapoor is scheduled to hold further talks with senior government officials, business leaders, and cultural experts to reinforce bilateral ties.
