Property probe panel initiates works

The high-level property probe panel formed by the government has officially begun its works on Wednesday.

The five-member commission was formed under the chairmanship of former justice at Supreme Court, Rajendra Kumar Bhandari, in a bid to investigate the property of political and bureaucratic elites in the last two decades.

Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Chairman Bhandari, while Chairman Bhandari administered oath to other members of the Commission- Purushottam Parajuli, Chandiraj Dhakal, Ganesh KC and Prakash Lamsal in the presence of CJ Malla.

Commission formed as per Cabinet meeting of April 15 has set up its office at Kesharmahal.

The probe panel tasked as per Investigation Act, 2026 has also got its term of references. Given a one year term, the Commission will launch an in-depth investigation into the asset of the political leaders holding public posts and the high level government officials in the last two decades. It is required to submit its report to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers once the investigation is over, while the government is mandated to enforce the report within 45 days.

The Commission receives complaints through any medium- written, verbal, electronic or social media. As per need, it can appoint any expert maintaining no conflict of interest.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers is screening 32 government officials for assigning at the Commission.
