Only 214 displaced squatter families come for govt's aid

The government has continued the work of evacuating public and government land along the river banks of the Kathmandu Valley today.

Government teams have been deployed since Sunday morning to demolish the remaining structures and clear the land.

The physical structures at Gothatar Buddha Chowk and Manohara Tole in Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-8 and 9 in Kathmandu have been removed and cleared.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah's Secretariat has stated that security personnel assisted in removing and transporting the belongings of the families living there before the physical structures in the settlements were demolished.

The government has stated that after the demolition of the structures at Manohara, the remaining river banks and risky public and government land in Gairigaun in Kathmandu-9 and Shantinagar in Kathmandu-31 will be removed.

The structures at Thapathali in Kathmandu-11 were cleared on Saturday.

A total of 214 families have come in contact with the government so far in the process of evacuating the settlements. They have been provided with accommodation.
