Visiting Sergio Gor, Special Envoy of US President Donald Trump for South and Central Central Asia, is concluding his Nepal visit without meeting Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
Diplomat Gor, who came on a three-day visit to Nepal on Thursday, leading a six-member delegation, is wrapping up his Nepal visit tomorrow.
Despite diplomat Gor's request to meet with Prime Minister Balendra Shah, he could not find time for him citing busy schedule, said Deepal Dahal, Press and Research Expert to Prime Minister Balen.
"He is currently focused on issues related to internal good governance. He could not meet with diplomat Gor due to his extremely tight schedule," said Dahal.
Earlier, when the team of US Assistant Secretary of State Samir Paul Kapur—who visited Nepal on April 20—requested a meeting with Shah, the Prime Minister could not meet him.
Earlier, Gor visited two ministers of Nepal – Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle and Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal this afternoon. During the meeting between Minister Wagle and diplomat Gor, various bilateral issues ranging from economic partnerships between Nepal and America to various aspects of development assistance were discussed, according to Finance Ministry.
Similarly, the US Special Envoy also paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal. During the meeting, diplomat Gor and Finance Minister Khala discussed further cementing Nepal-US ties with a special focus on promoting investment and trade.
"During the call on, discussions were held on further strengthening Nepal-US relations, with an emphasis on promoting investment and trade," the Foreign Ministry said.
American diplomat is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, Ashok Raj Sigdel during his stay in Nepal.
Gor, who is also the incumbent US Ambassador to India, is the highest-ranking American diplomat to arrive in Nepal after the Balendra Shah government was formed following the March 5 elections.
He is returning to New Delhi wrapping up his three-day Nepal visit on Saturday.
