The government has finally scrapped the provisions relating to trade unions in civil service. The trade unions rife in the name of various political parties had plagued administration for long, the government argued.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, a section officer at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Bibek Bidari, reminded that Section 53 of the Civil Service Act, 2049, was repealed after the issuance of an Ordinance, 2083, which was made to amend some Nepal Acts. With this, there is no existence of trade unions in civil service now onwards.

In the wake of new law in place, the Ministry directed all other ministries, departments, commissions, secretariats and all government agencies to close down the offices of trade unions. The concerned offices have been further asked to immediately return the property- buildings, offices, vehicles and other facilities- used by such trade unions to the government.

The Ministry asked the employees associated with various trade unions to begin assigned responsibilities and the concerned offices manage their duties accordingly.
