Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has nominated 19 people as central working committee (CWC) members. President Thapa has nominated 19 people as CWC members in accordance with Article 21 (10) of the party's statute, 2017 (with amendments).
Outgoing Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav, Jiban Pariyar, outgoing Treasurer Umesh Shrestha, outgoing central members Ramesh Rijal, Sujata Koirala, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Dr Chandrakanta Bhandari, Ajay Kumar Chaurasia, Laxmi Pariyar, Angelu Sherpa have been nominated as CWC members.
Similarly, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, Rajiv Koirala, Rajiv Dhungana, Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel, Sushila Mishra Bhatta, Nagina Yadav, Dinesh Koirala, Dr Jeevan Rana and Sita Thapaliya Urmila, who were nominated as CWC members, are also outgoing CWC members.
While nominating the CWC members, President Thapa seems to have included the leaders of the outgoing President Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Shekhar Koirala group.
There are 11 leaders from the Deuba faction including Yadav, Shrestha, Rijal, Chaurasia, Pariyar, Sherpa, Yadav, Dhungana, Yadav, Bhatta and Rana, while seven from the Shekhar faction including Pariyar, Koirala, Badu, Bhandari, Koirala, Pokharel and Koirala. Thapaliya is considered close to Dr Shashanka Koirala. A 134-member CWC was elected under the leadership of Thapa through the Special General Convention held on January 11-14. President Thapa nominated some leaders from the Deuba and Koirala factions on the quota that the President can nominate.
President Thapa had recently talked to the outgoing acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka and leader Shekhar Koirala.
