Nepali Congress (NC) leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has revealed that NC should play a leading role in restoring a sense of security and fearlessness in the people, warning that the nation's democracy is in a dire crisis.

Addressing a gathering of the non-establishment of Nepali Congress in Biratnagar, Sitaula stressed that the party should work with new determination to break the atmosphere of fear and despair seen among the people.

He commented that the lawmakers from Koshi Province, especially the proportional representation lawmakers, could not attend this historic gathering due to fear of losing their positions and various temptations. Stating that many friends could not come openly due to political gains and greed for positions, he opined that such a trend cannot strengthen the organization.

Leader Sitaula urged the cadres to organize such idea-building gatherings in districts, regions and municipalities, regardless of the number, to keep the party intact and bolster internal democracy.

He inspired them to express their clear views even if they are small in number and to engage in continuous discussions to strengthen the organization. During his address, he mentioned that 5-6 top leaders including former General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala and himself have received a later from the top leadership. However, he declined to share the further details about its contents.

Sitaula pointed out the need for all leaders and cadres to put aside their differences and unite for greater unity in the current critical time, as it would be easier to move the party forward according to the core principles and ideals put forward by NC since its inception.
