Shuklaphanta Municipality in the district launched tuberculosis identification with the use of portable X-Ray machine based on AI technology.

The local level held camps at vulnerable sites such as wards nos 1, 5 and 8 in order to identify the tuberculosis patients, who have been left unchecked. The use of modern technology is facilitating the identification and detection of patients for timely treatment.

According to chief of health section at the Municipality, Parama Nand Bhatta, the detection camps were conducted at Pitambar Health Post of ward no 8, Basic Health Centre of Ward no 5 and Urban Health Centre of ward no 1. A team comprising a doctor and health workers has been conducting the search for tuberculosis patients with the use of portable X-Ray machine set on AI technology.

Total 688 persons have been tested for tuberculosis. Among them, 42 were found suspicious and their tests forwarded to Mahakali Provincial Hospital for further screening that applies GeneXpert test. Section chief Bhatta added that the X-Rays equipped with AI helps find microorganisms, which was earlier difficult through normal X-rays use. “The digital computer system is therefore very helpful to identify potential tuberculosis patients,” he said, adding, “This helps in identifying patients facing risk even without testing sputum.”
